[Kindergartners sing “Inch by Inch”]
In classrooms around the country, teachers who love birds and nature are introducing students to a source of life-long enjoyment. Here’s kindergarten teacher Emily Czerwonka:
“So they choose a bird that is most like them. And then they go through different steps in learning about that bird so, it’s about a 3-month project that we do and they get to present their knowledge as ornithologists to their school community and the community at large.”
Rocco knows why he made his choice:
“I’m studying the Great Horned Owl…because it can tear up its food and eat the meat – and I like meat.”
We asked Molly what someone should know about her bird, the Pileated Woodpecker:
“They eat like ants and spiders. They have a chiseled beak and climbing feet, and their babies have little tufts of hair that are just kind of orange.”
Cedar holds his life-size replica of a Snowy Owl. Why the Snowy Owl?
“Because I like the colors black and white and I like that it has hooked feet. Um, it eats rodents and fish and sometimes bunnies…wild bunnies.”
