BirdNote®
Investing in Our Listeners' Learning Journeys
By Conor Gearin
This is BirdNote.
[Western Sandpiper calls]
Even before chicks hatch from their eggs, they’re listening carefully to their parents. Researchers have found that song learning begins inside the egg. In some shorebird species, chirping begins before the chicks hatch, and some even know to fall silent when they hear the calls of a predator nearby. In other words, many birds emerge ready to survive and face the world.

While human babies soak up knowledge like a sponge, we also have the benefit of learning over many years — our whole lifetimes, in fact. BirdNote shows are designed to be accessible for people of all ages, because we want to reach as many people as we can with the joy of birds.

When listeners like you make a donation to BirdNote, you’re investing in the learning journeys of millions of people all over. We’ve spoken to children who credit BirdNote for learning their birds very early. That means when you support BirdNote, you’re also helping young people learn about birds and be inspired to take action throughout their lives for wildlife and the ecosystems we all depend on.
