In American democracy, elected officials work for the people. With the non-profit American Bird Conservancy, Hardy Kern takes action for birds by helping people reach out to lawmakers at every level of government.
Hardy Kern: They can only act on the information that they are given by the people that they represent. So if they're not hearing anything from their constituents about how important bird conservation is or the Endangered Species Act or habitat preservation, they don't know that that's something that their constituents care about.

Hardy Kern: Even if you'd pick just one thing every month, even just one thing a year, and say, “This is important to me. I'm gonna speak up about it. I'm gonna send an email. I'm gonna make a call.” That is going to make a difference because wildlife can't speak for itself. It's up to us to do that.
