American Kestrels are a widespread species and like to hunt in open areas. Their habitat ranges across wild places like deserts and grasslands to suburbs and even cities. They eat mostly insects like grasshoppers, spiders, beetles and dragonflies. But their diet can be varied with small rodents, reptiles, frogs and birds. Gregg Thompson found this bird with a dragonfly for lunch.
