A first-winter male Common Eider recently turned up on the Washington Coast, the state's third record. Normally, they are found along far northern coasts in Alaska, Canada, northeastern US, and Greenland in both breeding and non-breeding seasons. These ducks forage underwater often diving to the sea floor to feed on sea urchins, mollusks and crustaceans.
