Illustrator David Sibley and actor H. Jon Benjamin will face off in the bird illustration battle of the century during BirdNote's Year-end Celebration and Auction!
Gregg Thompson was photographing American Dippers when, farther out in the lake, he witnessed this male Common Merganser dive--and surface with a frog! Cornell's Birds of North America states that frogs can account for less than two percent of the Common Merganser diet. The merganser's long toothed bill allows it to grasp its often slippery prey, which is mostly fish.
