Join BirdNote tomorrow, November 30th!
Illustrator David Sibley and actor H. Jon Benjamin will face off in the bird illustration battle of the century during BirdNote's Year-end Celebration and Auction!
Jeff was born in Carmel, California in 1934 and moved to Santa Barbara in 1944. In the early 1950s, he took up photography and became curious about birds, especially shorebirds and birds of prey.
After graduating from UCSB (BA 1961) and Cornell (MFA 1963) he married and moved to Canada, spending the next thirty years teaching art at various universities. In 1985, while at the University of Guelph, Ontario, he began birding in earnest. Retiring in 1994, he returned to California, settling in Santa Cruz. Currently he’s been concentrating on pelagic trips and seabird photography, and wrestling with the mysteries of gull identification.
Jeff has had photos published in various journals and field guides. He also has photos on a number of birding websites and is represented in the archives of Vireo and Iziko Museum in South Africa.
