Tykee James on Recovering America’s Wildlife Act
Written by Mark Bramhill
Tenijah Hamilton: This is BirdNote.
Tykee James is a Senior Government Affairs Representative at The Wilderness Society in DC. Gridlock in Washington can be a real challenge to protecting birds, but a bill called Recovering America's Wildlife Act is giving Tykee hope:
Tykee James: Recovering America's Wildlife Act in a lifetime opportunity to fund wildlife for generations today and yet to come.
Tenijah Hamilton: The bill would provide $1.4 billion a year in funding for state and tribal conservation efforts. He says that’s important to protect habitats and species that reach across state borders.
Tykee James: The political boundaries that we have set around states don't necessarily describe how nature works.
Tenijah Hamilton: For birds like the Eastern Meadowlark that depend on habitats spread throughout the country, this could make a big difference.

Tenijah Hamilton: Things look promising for Recovering America's Wildlife Act. The bill passed the House, and now is waiting for a vote in the Senate. And it has strong bipartisan support there:
Tykee James: We have Bob Casey and Lindsay Graham on this bill. We have Mark Kelly and Tommy Tuberville. There's a lot of folks who support this bill.
I think Recovering America's Wildlife Act can pass. And we can tell our senators why this is important to us. Because that's the reason that they vote.
