Illustrator David Sibley and actor H. Jon Benjamin will face off in the bird illustration battle of the century during BirdNote's Year-end Celebration and Auction!
Gregg Thompson captured a series of images of this Green Heron fishing in an urban marsh. The Green Heron is widely distributed in wetlands throughout North America--primarily the eastern half of the United States and the Pacific Coast--as well as Central America and the Caribbean. Most interestingly, the Green Heron is one of the few species of birds that use tools. Individuals have been recorded dropping small objects such as sticks and earthworms into the water to attract fish closer to the surface.
