Sungrebes are duck-like birds found in the avian family Heliornithidae, a.k.a. the “finfoots. Wow, you can see why!
There are three species of finfoot in the world, all found in tropical and aquatic habitats, one each in South America, tropical Africa, and southern Asia. Although the shape of the Sungrebe's bill and its aquatic lifestyle remind us most of grebes, at this point it appears that they are most closely related to the rails, the avian family Rallidae.
