Anna's Hummingbird is a small jewel of a bird found year-around along the west coast of the US. These birds forage in a wide range of lowland habitats including gardens, woodlands, sagelands, and along streams. They most often feed on nectar - hovering over or perching near the flower - and insects - snatching them in midair or from foliage. Anna's hummers commonly visit feeders to supplement their natural food sources.
Mike Hamilton found this female feeding on Snowberries - a plant native across North America. It looks like she was both picking up a few insects and lapping up blossom nectar at this food bar.
