Photographer Gregg Thompson found this Wood Duck hen (female) in great light. These images show her beautifully textured, layered feathers of many colors - bronze, green, blue, purple, brown, white - some iridescent. She really is a gorgeous bird. Although so easy to see in the open, these feather patterns allow her to disappear easily in shoreline cover.
