Illustrator David Sibley and actor H. Jon Benjamin will face off in the bird illustration battle of the century during BirdNote's Year-end Celebration and Auction!
Martín began to study birds over 20 years ago in Argentina. Throughout his professional life, he has focused on different research topics, ranging from feeding ecology to breeding biology and the behavior of birds. As part of his Ph.D. studies, he became interested in the host-parasite interactions between Philornis parasitic flies and birds. He drew from this experience to contribute to efforts to mitigate parasitism by Philornis in Darwin finches in the Galapagos Islands and Ridgway's Hawks in the Dominican Republic. He continues to work on the impact of this group of parasites on birds. Martín is excited to serve on BirdNote's Science Advisory Council, which he says "represents the chance to let lots of people know how amazing birds are and help to cultivate the love for birds for countless people." He lives with his wife, Marcela, and his two children in the Dominican Republic. They all love taking trips around the island and enjoy nature together.
