Illustrator David Sibley and actor H. Jon Benjamin will face off in the bird illustration battle of the century during BirdNote's Year-end Celebration and Auction!
“Poppe” was raised in Nebraska, where her spark birds were Whooping Cranes on the Platte river. This led to birding on seven continents, most recently the Choco-Andes in Ecuador. She first taught public school music in Colorado and Washington, and is now Professor Emeritus of Music Education at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, where she was present for the origin of BirdNote at NPR/KPLU (now KNKX). She was event manager during their 2016 station change fundraising.
In lieu of ‘flunking’ retirement, she gives her time to nonprofits, including the Seattle International Film Festival, Farmers Markets and several national music organizations.She seeks to share her BirdNote enthusiasm through engagement with children and adults, increasing distribution to other stations and countries as this organization continues to thrive.
