Take Action

Share your passion for birds with others.

If you can convince one person to help improve conditions for birds then you’ve just doubled your impact!

  1. Write letters to the editor expressing your concern about environmental issues, including climate change, renewable energy, habitat preservation, sustainable agriculture, etc.
  2. Go to city and county council meetings, and get involved in local land-use planning. Help put aside habitat for birds and other wildlife. Protect local watershed areas. Vist it Greenbelt.org.
  3. Volunteer for a local organization that plants trees. Work to get rid of invasive plants in local parks and roadsides.
  4. Visit the League of Conservation Voters, where you can view an environmental scorecard for Congress, get the latest on issues and legislation, sign up for email action alerts, and much more.
  5. Write to your elected representatives at the state and federal levels. Let them know how you feel about population control, climate change, renewable energy, habitat protection, clean air and water, etc.
  6. Put your money where your mouth is. Give financial support to candidates who vote for the issues you care about and to organizations that work for improvement.
  7. Support organizations that protect rainforest areas. Visit the Rainforest Action Network.
  8. Sign up for Action Alerts from National Audubon Society. Then you can take action online, for the health of the people and the planet. Make your voice heard with a single click, sending messages to key decision-makers.
  9. Find nonprofit partners for all sorts of environmental work at Story of Stuff.com.
  10. Engage in citizen science to help scientists gather important data on birds, and other parts of the natural world. Learn about Cornell's citizen science projects (e.g. NestWatch, eBird, Project FeederWatch, Great Backyard Bird Count, etc.), National Audubon's Christmas Bird Count, or search for projects near you via CornellScientific American, or SciStarter
