Illustrator David Sibley and actor H. Jon Benjamin will face off in the bird illustration battle of the century during BirdNote's Year-end Celebration and Auction!
Cameron began watching birds at the age of nine, what his parents thought would be nothing more than a passing interest. But whatever trains and dinosaurs lacked, birds possessed. He has been captivated by birds ever since and this once-hobby has now blossomed into a full-blown vocation (what he affectionately refers to as a "freelance biologist"). Cameron (seen here with an I'iwi) is an inveterate field biologist, working seasonally wherever the birds provide compensation, although he maintains that he's on the scenic road somewhere between an undergraduate degree and higher education.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology, his work has taken him across three continents, spanning ecosystems as diverse as tropical rainforests, the Arctic tundra, and Antarctic islands. This includes nearly a year in Borneo (Malaysia), a summer in the Caribbean, and six months on Laysan (Northwestern Hawaiian Islands), where he assisted in the initial translocation of Millerbirds. What nobody seems to have told him, however, is just how much isolation this all would entail: satellite phones have been the primary source of communication in three of these jobs!
When not birding, he still enjoys traveling, as well as writing, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee.
